Automated External Defibrillater at St. Mark’s
St. Mark’s United Church has installed an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) in the Upper Hall of the church. An AED is a portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses the potentially life threatening cardiac arrhythnias in a patient and is able to treat them through defibrillation. The device is located by the fire pull station on the west wall of the Upper Hall. It is a portable unit, with a voice prompt that will initiate in the event of an emergency. With simple audio and visual commands, AEDs are designed to be simple to use for laymen and the unit will not work if the patient has a heartbeat. The unit will not automatically contact 911, therefore you must dial 911 from the land line phone on the desk in the upper hall before initiating the unit. St. Mark’s has also arranged to have paediatric pads added to the unit so that they will be available for use with all ages that use our facilities.
